Clearly the most exciting release-as far as new and truly
alternative recordings go-is "Thanks for the Ether" by Rasputina.
You have to hear this band to believe how cool it really is. The
closest thing I can say to prepare someone for Rasputina is that
they are kinda like a cross between They Might Be Giants and Camper
Van Beethoven. But that won't prepare you for the music.
Rasputina is 3 cellists (that's CELLISTS) who pulled in a drummer
to record "Thanks for the Ether". Also helpful to prepare to
listen to Rasputina are the titles of some songs: "The Donner
Party", "Kate Moss", "Five Fleas", and "Transylvanian Concubine."
Kurt Ralske of Ultra Vivid Scene has taken notice of Rasputina as
well as the Greenwich Village crowd. Not sure where you can find
this CD, but if you're looking for the original, find it and buy
"Thanks for the Ether."
